Police are investigating the death of Freeport resident Latchmi Persad.
According to reports, a 35-year-old man who knew Persad went to the Couva Police Station on Saturday and told officers he had strangled Persad, 42, of Ramsamooj Avenue, Chickland, on Friday.
Police visited the house around 2 pm and broke down the door to find Persad’s body in the bedroom. Persad worked at a nearby mini mart and lived alone, as her mother died last year.
The circumstances that led to her death were unclear last evening and police will await the results of an autopsy today. The suspect remains in police custody.
Police are also investigating the murder of a St Vincent national Eric Henry, who was shot and killed in Dow Village, California, on Saturday around 10 pm
Mechanic killed in attack on bar
Police are still searching for two men who opened fire at Spot’s Bar in Fyzabad on Friday night, killing innocent mechanic Roddy Ramsingh.
Investigators said yesterday they do not have a clear description of the suspects although the shooting was captured on video.
Ramsingh’s family believe his death was a case of mistaken identity.
An autopsy is to be done on Ramsingh at the Forensic Science Centre today.
In a separate incident, police are also searching for a masked gunman who robbed Lotto operator Kadisha Duncan on Saturday. Investigators said around 7 pm, Duncan was on duty at Hope Road, Princes Town, when a man wearing a mask came up and pointed a gun to her head. He robbed her of $6,000 in cash and escaped on foot. PC Mitchell is continuing investigations.
Limer slain near bball court
Sherrin Gilbert was gunned down near a basketball court in San Fernando on Saturday night.
Gilbert, 35, of Roy Joseph Building, Prince of Wales Street, was liming at Laurence Street around 10.25 pm when a gold-coloured van pulled up. A gunman came out and fired several shots at Gilbert, who tried to run. However, Gilbert was hit in back and died at the scene.
Police said Gilbert had several drug-related offences in court. No arrests have yet been made.
The murder tool for the year now stands at 103.
Skeletal remains found in Arima
The charred remains of a body was discovered yesterday morning at Manuel Congo Road, Arima.
Officers said the remains were discovered by villagers who entered a property which was burnt out in a fire some time ago.
Up until late yesterday evening the body was not identified by the police.
Ex-SRP shoot by ‘passenger’
A former Special Reserve police officer is now warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, after he was shot in his vehicle at Bourg Mulatresse on Friday night.
Neville Roberts, 70, who was working his vehicle for hire, remained in critical condition last night after he was shot by a passenger in his vehicle.
A report said on Friday night Roberts took up several passengers who wanted to go to Grand Curacaye Road in San Juan.
Police said hours later, Roberts was found slumped in his vehicle with a gunshot wound to his neck.
Detectives said when they searched the vehicle, Roberts’ wallet and other items were found. They said it was unclear what motive they had for shooting the victim.
Investigations are continuing.
