According to reports, around midday on Wednesday, fishermen discovered what a body in a bag tied with bricks, and alerted police officers.
Coast Guard officers and police responded.
According to CCN TV6 President of the Police Social and Welfare Association, Michael Seales says preliminary reports confirm that the body found in Caroni is that of WPC Nyasha Joseph.
Superintendent Radcliff Boxhill and ACP Wayne Dick have also confirmed that the body belongs to Joseph, who is said to have been clad in her police uniform when found.
Up to 2:30 pm today relatives had not yet positively identified the body, which is said to be badly decomposed.
WPC Joseph was reported missing last Friday after she did not appear for work and relatives tried to contact her on her cell phone without success.
She was attached to the Morvant Police Station and was the mother of a 4-year-old girl.
Police had detained a male friend of the victim at the Besson Street Police Station in relation to her disappearance.
Several searches were conducted both on land and at sea with a heavy police presence in Sea Lots since her disappearance.
