Rowley, Kamla talks underway

Talks between Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar started on Tuesday as scheduled. 

The meeting was carded to start at 2 p.m. but got off the ground a few minutes late as heavy rainfall appeared to cause some delay.

Persad-Bissessar arrived at the Parliament tower just about eight minutes after 2 p.m. Her vehicle drove into the covered area and she exited and hurried up to the Prime Minister’s office in the Parliament building.


Rowley greeted Persad-Bissessar and both leaders were all smiles as official photographs were taken which were posted on the Office of the Prime Minister’s official Facebook page and also on Persad-Bissessar’s Facebook page.

While the leaders are currently engaged in discussions on national issues, streets of the capital city are flooding.

South Quay which normally floods after heavy rainfall was impassable.

The bottom of Charlotte and George streets were also impassable with many motorists opting to turn around to avoid stalling.

Traffic has already started from Wrightson Road to the East bound land of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.

Members of the media are on standby in the J Hamilton Maurice room of the Parliament where Rowley is expected to hold a news conference following the meeting.

The Express understand that Persad-Bissessar will also hold a news conference this afternoon at the office of the Leader of the Opposition, Charles Street, Port of Spain .

Rowley wrote Persad-Bissessar last Monday requesting a meeting which she accepted.
