NFM worker dies after fall

ANĀ  employee of National Flour Mills (NFM) Limited who tumbled off a staircase while on the job last week has died at hospital.

McAllister Charles, a plant superintendent, died on Sunday.

A media release from NFM’s communications officer Lisa Cropper-Cudjoe stated that the cause of Charles’ death is yet to be confirmed.


The release stated: “National Flour Mills Limited (NFM) regrets the passing of Mr. McAllister Charles who died on June 11, 2017. Charles, an employee for the past 25 years was a Plant Superintendent of the Feed Mill. While the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, NFM reports that Mr Charles fell on the southern staircase of the Feed Mill facility on Thursday June 8, 2017 at approximately 1 p.m. Mr Charles was then taken by ambulance to the St Clair Medical Centre for treatment where he remained boarded up to the time of his demise. An autopsy will be performed to establish the cause of death”.

“Together with Families in Action, NFM has begun counselling workers attached to the Feed Mill Facility. Counselling services will continue to be facilitated via its employee assistance programme as required. The management and staff of National Flour Mills Limited acknowledge the commitment and dedication of Mr. McAllister during his years of service and extend sincere condolences to his wife and relatives during this time of bereavement”, the release stated.

The autopsy was expected to be done on Monday.
