A 24-year-old labourer from Central Trinidad is expected to appear in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today charged with the murder of Mariana Moonisar.
The 28-year-old woman was an administrative clerk at the Parliament.
Johnathan Ramroop from Dow Village, California was charged with murder, wounding with intent and possession of firearm and ammunition on Tuesday, following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore Paul.
On August 3, 2018 at 5:15 am, the victims were in a Nissan Tiida along Brechin Castle Road when they approached by two male suspects who shot at them.
The assailants escaped on foot.
Moonisar and her relative sustained several gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital for treatment. She later succumbed to her injuries.
Investigations conducted by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region 3 on February 9 led to Ramroop’s arrest.
Investigations were supervised by Supt. Winchester, while charges were laid by WPC Callender of the HBI Region 3.
